Now, I suspect if they issued them angle grinders or power saws, they would have had more luck. The employee said he was one of the guys who tried to get into it. They claimed that the testers gave up, exhausted, after 45 minutes. and told them to try to get into the box. They claimed that they gave a couple of goons pry bars, hammers, etc. They both, independently, told me about a test they did when they first created the Dakota safe. Once I talked to the owner and the second time to one of his employees. I'm sure it would be fairly easy to cut through with power tools, though.įWIW, I've called the company twice. There isn't a gap around the door where a thief can start his pry bar. My only thought is that I think the safe busting techniques in the video you always see would be harder with the Dakota. I can't speak with authority, as the Dakota is the only "safe" I own (I do have a couple of cheaper security cabinets). How does Dakota stack up security wise? I have been eyeing them for my next safe as my Centurion doesn't really instill confidence. It's in your price range and they'll sell you a combination lock option for $50. There are two things I like a lot about the Dakota:ġ.) You assemble it yourself so it's easier to move, and it can be built inside a closet or a room with a doorway smaller than the safe.Ģ.) The door has a flat front plate that overlaps the opening, so you don't have the big gap around the door that makes it easy for thieves stick a pry bar in and wedge the door open. I don't know where you are in Missouri, but if you're in the southwest part, a road trip to Tulsa might be doable to pick up a Dakota Safe. In my opinion, Stack-on should have used another name for these as they are decent for the money - but that Stack-on name detracts. It was all convenience with a minor win for the gun shop dealer, a win on the price for me, a win for my Son.įWIW, that Stack-on Elite 24 is the only "safe" I'd consider ever buying as the rest of Stack-on's product line are essentially gym lockers. So, I helped my Son get a bigger/new safe, I helped the dealer make his minimum (was about to loose all his profit on another safe sale due to low volume), Safe was delivered, old safe is mine. I had store credit as well, so my cost was $550 - and by buying the safe the dealer was able to meet a minimum purchase from distributor. Seemed like a nice safe for the price, the ONLY thing I hate is that Stack-on name.īackstory is that my Son's present safe (12 gun) is located in a place (I own/second story) where I would like to maintain a basic safe after he moves out - and moving a safe in/out is a royal pain in the ass - so I offered to buy a larger safe and keep his old one in place for my use. I just bought the Stack-on Elite 24 with electronic lock for my Son's new home. So, how much difference does the bolt locations matter? I'm assuming the weight difference is thinner metal on the Stack-on, correct? Which would you buy if it was your money? Is the P22 any better or worse than the previous two? Just to throw this out there, about an hour north of me, a store is selling off their '09 stock of Cannon Patriot P22's for $550. ![]() ![]() I must admit that the interior just seemed much nicer than the Centurion. Combination lock, 5 bolts (3 on side, 1 on top, 1 on bottom), external hinges, 490lbs. Made in the USA, 23 cu ft, plenty of room for what I need. Electronic lock, 5 bolts along one side, internal hinges, 520lbs. So I've been looking around.Ĭenturion by Liberty - CN23 that Sam's Club sells. ![]() I just need to secure 4 rifles, 1 shotgun, and 4 handguns. I'm in an apartment so those 1200lb monsters aren't for me, yet. In case anything goes wrong, at least the door will be open and the problem will be much easier to fix.ġ) Enter "33*" (the * button is on the bottom left of the keypad).Ģ) Enter the existing 6 digit code, then press the "#" button (you will hear 5 beeps).ģ) Enter the new 6 digit code, then press the "#" button (you will hear 3 beeps).Ĥ) Enter the new 6 digit code again, then press the "#" button (you will hear another 3 beeps).Alright, this is my entry level safe. It's recommended that you open the safe door and turn the handle to the left, throwing the bolts out and locking the door in the open position. If your S&G electronic lock has a "#" botton on the bottom right of the keypad and it is responsive, then use the instructions below. The User1 and User2 positions have been deleted.
